IT’S EXPOSING HOW MUCH YOU NEED THEM.\n\nLast week, I shared a cartoon about AI accelerating broken processes. More than 70,000 impressions later, it’s clear the message sparked excitement.\n\nHere’s the next uncomfortable truth:\n\nYou need competent people to create competent automation.\n\nJensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, has warned that people who know how to use AI will replace those who don’t.\n\nBut who’s teaching AI how the business actually works?\n\nConsider this:\n\n📊 The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania: AI can automate significant portions of many jobs, but automating tasks isn’t the same as replacing people.\n\n📊 McKinsey & Company : 88% of organizations report using AI, yet only 7% have fully scaled it across their enterprises.\n\n🎓 MIT Sloan School of Management: When I completed its AI strategy program, the emphasis was on training and empowering people, not simply eliminating them.\n\nThat same message was central to my keynote at Data Con LA (posted on October 8th) and the California Workforce - Association conferences last month. \n\nPeople are still part of the secret sauce. And as chair of the City of Long Beach Workforce Network (LBWIN) board and Invest Long Beach, talent and skilled workforce are still central to success for companies. \n\nHere’s where I believe executives need to rethink their strategy:\n\nAt Ventures 52 we believe AI’s greatest opportunity isn’t necessarily cutting the workforce you have. \n\nIt’s growing your business without proportionally growing your headcount.\n\nMore revenue. More capacity. Greater productivity.\n\nWithout throwing more people at every problem.\n\nThat’s how AI creates sustainable operating leverage.\n\nBut eliminating the institutional knowledge needed to design, train, and manage automation just to pay for the technology?\n\nThat’s a potentially expensive mistake.\n\nYou cannot automate expertise you don’t possess.\n\nThe winners won’t necessarily be the companies that eliminate the most jobs.\n\nThey’ll be the companies that create the most value per employee.\n\nSo, what’s your AI strategy?\n\nA) Replace people to reduce costs.\n\nB) Empower people to scale growth.\n\nOr is the answer somewhere in between?\n\nComment below and let us know.\n\n#ArtificialIntelligence #FutureOfWork #Leadership #BusinessStrategy ","topic":"fractional","byline":"weston","linkedin_url":"https://www.linkedin.com/feed/?highlightedUpdateUrn=urn%3Ali%3Aactivity%3A7516151667923423232&highlightedUpdateType=SHARED_BY_YOUR_NETWORK&origin=inapp&showCommentBox=true","media":[{"h":999,"w":800,"id":"4f9ab9f8-e9f8-49e3-8c22-e99a2ec475c3","alt":"Cantonized man image ","ext":"jpg","kind":"image","bytes":562754}],"published_at":"2026-10-14T15:16:00+00:00","updated_at":"2026-10-14T16:15:24.136216+00:00","card":null},"prev":{"slug":"key-insights-from-bnsf-railway-ceo-katie-farmer","title":"Key Insights from BNSF Railway CEO Katie Farmer"},"next":null}
